White Bodies and the Cultural Somatics of Accountability

July 9 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

For many hundreds of years, white bodies have been protected from discomfort by national and global systems of privilege. This does not mean that white bodies have not suffered; however it does mean that certain types of suffering have been passed disproportionately along to non-white-bodied people. What personal and cultural somatic practices are required among white-bodied communities to restore at the body-based level the capacity to feel and integrate the discomfort which arises in the process of true accountability-taking and change?  What different somatic histories and needs might exist in different national contexts? What supports and obstacles are there?

This participatory online session will host experiential activities and a structured conversation.

Please note: this session centralises the white-body experience in a spirit of Allyship. All people who are able to sustain respectful, heart-full, and mature presence are welcome to attend.

This online session is offered as part of the “Coming Down to Earth” regenerative cultures online summit.
